Oaks Brothers Inc. is proud to celebrate a milestone three decades in the making — Susan Cavin’s 30th anniversary with the company.

When Susan reflects on her time at OBI, she sums it up in six words: “Thirty years later… thirty years blessed.” It’s a sentiment that captures not just her career, but the way she’s shown up every day for her coworkers and the company she calls family.

A Family, Plain and Simple

Ask Susan what she loves most about working at Oaks Brothers, and the answer comes quickly: “It’s a family, plain and simple. No matter what, they are always there for you.”

That spirit runs through her favorite OBI memories — the annual company fishing trips, the unforgettable 30th Anniversary company trip to Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, Missouri, and the time a wayward squirrel found its way into Greg’s office. “I laughed so hard I cried,” Susan recalls. Thirty years of moments like these have made her as much a part of the OBI story as the projects the company is known for.

Faith, Family, and a Well-Earned Perspective

Outside of work, Susan’s heart is with her family. She shared 35 years of marriage with her late husband, Mike Cavin, whose humor and ornery streak she and her three children still miss every day.

Today, Susan is proudest of the adults her three children have grown into. “I thank God for choosing me to be their Mother,” she says. She treasures time with her three grandchildren — Lydia, Dylan, and Kenzie — along with her parents and her very spoiled German Shepherd, Layla.

When she isn’t at the office, you’ll likely find Susan outdoors — in the pool, on the lake, at the cabin, or riding her side-by-side through the national forest, “taking in all of God’s beautiful creation.”

Advice Worth Passing On

For the OBI team members who will one day follow in her footsteps, Susan offers simple advice: “Don’t take for granted the opportunity to work for OBI. It is such a privilege to get up and want to go to work.”

After 30 years, Susan is beginning to look ahead to retirement and more time with her kids and grandkids — but today, we’re pausing to look back and say thank you.
